Using Micro-Blogging Sites for Marketing

More and more people are coming to realize that micro-blogging sites (like Twitter) can be useful for marketing purposes. There are at least two major ways in which the said micro-blogging sites can be used for marketing.

The first way in which micro-blogging sites can be used for marketing would be where the marketers use the information available on these sites to figure out the right way to craft a marketing message. The folks behind, say, the www.ymail.com product (for email communications) can proceed to create a Ymail.com Twitter handle which they can then use to gather market intelligence on what people are saying about their product. Then they can use that information in coming up with, say, good ads for the service which are subsequently broadcasted on mass media (like, for instance, on TV).

The second way in which micro-blogging sites can be used for marketing would be where the marketers use the sites as platforms for advertising: that is, where they advertise directly on the sites. Twitter nowadays, for instance, allows businesses to buy advertising spots (with ads being served as special tweets). It is also possible for the folks marketing a particular product to acquire as many followers as possible, and then be posting advertising tweets for such followers to read through.
